Designing a new bedroom for Hugo using Google Sketch Up, iPad, PicCollage and Skitch

Today the year 5 children are designing a new bedroom for Hugo, a character from a book we are reading in English. They started by talking about what they wanted to put in his new room. I then showed them how to create a plan from a birds eye view.

At set times I asked the children to take some quality images of their designed.

These were to use later in Pic Collage to record the process.

The children then started to learn to use Google Sletch Up in the Cyber Zone on the iMac. They picked up the basics pretty quickly.

Once it was finished we used Pic Collage to record the process.

Skitch

Skitch allows children to take a photo of anything they like and draw and annotate all over it.

They can use words, shapes and arrows to write and draw on top of a picture.

We have used it in English where the children took a photo of a picture in the book we are reading. They then wrote down their initial thoughts and ideas on top of the picture.

To print it, the children saved their work to the camera roll and then used Air Drop to my iPad that was connected into my laptop ready to print! Simple!

Popplet

Poppet is a really easy mind mapping app that my class have used this week.

Today we just used words but you can also add photos and drawings. It's really easy to use and the children picked it up really easily.

Temple run in maths

Today we have been using TEMPLE RUN to generate 5 and 6 digit numbers. The children played the game and then arranged themselves in order from smallest to largest. Next they paired off and added up the two scalers and then took away the numbers.

The children enjoyed making their own numbers and was a great stimulus.
