Minecraft- area and perimeter in maths

Children LOVE Minecraft! They all want to play it and they all know how to play it!

The children all lolled into Minecraft and stared a 'flat world' on creative mode. They then selected a range of different coloured blocks. I told then to use upto 30 blocks to create squares and rectangles.

Once they had their shapes, they took photos and imported into Pic Collage. Text was then added to show the area and perimeter of each shape.

Remember to use multicoloured blocks in the shapes... It looks better and it's easier to count!

The children loved it and learnt a lot about area and perimeter without noticing!

Pic Collage - Venn and Carroll Diagrams

Great interactive and fun way of creating these diagrams!

Take a photo of a pre drawn Venn or Careoll diagram. Set it as the background on Pic Collage.

Children write the names of the fields in Pic Collage. Then they survey people and take their photo and place them in the correct place!

Really easy and the children really enjoyed it!

Pic Collage and Angry Birds - angles in maths

First I let the children play Angry Birds. We then talked about angles and which angle is the best for killing the pigs.

They launched the birds and then took photos of their flight path...the dotted lines. They imported the photos into Pic Collage and airdropped them to me and I printed them.

They then drew on the angles the angry birds took and measured then using a protractor

Pic Collage - Angles in Maths

Pic Collage is a simple and easy way to record work. The children found angles in the playground and took a photo of them with a protractor.

They then imported it into Pic Collage and wrote the degrees and angle

Designing a new bedroom for Hugo using Google Sketch Up, iPad, PicCollage and Skitch

Today the year 5 children are designing a new bedroom for Hugo, a character from a book we are reading in English. They started by talking about what they wanted to put in his new room. I then showed them how to create a plan from a birds eye view.

At set times I asked the children to take some quality images of their designed.

These were to use later in Pic Collage to record the process.

The children then started to learn to use Google Sletch Up in the Cyber Zone on the iMac. They picked up the basics pretty quickly.

Once it was finished we used Pic Collage to record the process.

Skitch

Skitch allows children to take a photo of anything they like and draw and annotate all over it.

They can use words, shapes and arrows to write and draw on top of a picture.

We have used it in English where the children took a photo of a picture in the book we are reading. They then wrote down their initial thoughts and ideas on top of the picture.

To print it, the children saved their work to the camera roll and then used Air Drop to my iPad that was connected into my laptop ready to print! Simple!

Popplet

Poppet is a really easy mind mapping app that my class have used this week.

Today we just used words but you can also add photos and drawings. It's really easy to use and the children picked it up really easily.
